چکیده

The widespread pollution from the release of microfibers is an emerging concern as they are a potential threat to environment. Their identification in samples terms quantity and pathways remain challenge contamination can be major source error. A systematic study synthetic (MFs) has been carried out different environmental compartments urban area surface waters northwestern Mediterranean. quantity, size type polymer MFs were recorded air, waste water domestic washing machine, at inlet outlet Haliotis wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) Nice (Provence Alpes Côte-d'Azur, France) variety coastal offshore areas. results showed that released by clothes during (on average 13 × 106 per m3) important emitter microplastics. Despite its high removal efficiency (87.5% 98.5%) Haliotis, large number MFs, estimated 4.3 billion, enter marine environment daily plant. attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) characterization raw materials 14 50% fibers synthetic, mostly polyester polyamide, remaining 35 72% being natural polymers (cotton, wool) or manufactured processing (especially cellulose). found all studied appear with concentrations varying 2.6 103 3.70 104 m?3. sources multiple, laundry discharges WWTP atmospheric transport among main pathways.

Dairy wastewater treatment plant in removal of organic pollution: a case study in Sanandaj, Iran

Background: Wastewater produced by a dairy in Sanandaj is a major source of environmental pollution threatening the city. The dairy uses activated sludge treatment to remove organic pollution from the wastewater. The present study evaluated the performance of this process and its compliance with national requirements for chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and total s...

PAHs in wastewater: removal efficiency in a conventional wastewater treatment plant and comparison with model predictions.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are very hazardous compounds and, owing to their lipophilicity, they can easily cross biological membranes and accumulate inside organisms, causing damage to the genetic material. The scientific interest in PAHs is related to their demonstrated or supposed genotoxicity (cancer-causing characteristics of B[alpha]Py and dB[alpha, h] first suspected in the 1...

Investigating the efficiency and kinetic coefficients of nutrient removal in the subsurface artificial wetland of Yazd wastewater treatment plant

Background: Investigating the performance of naturally operated treatment plants may be due to the fact that they cannot be operated as desired, or that they should be modified to achieve good performance e.g. for nutrients removal. The advantage of kinetic coefficient determination is that the model can be adjusted to fit data and then used for analyzing alternatives to improve the process. Th...

Wastewater Treatment by Azolla Filiculoides: A Study on Color, Odor, COD, Nitrate, and Phosphate Removal

The aquatic fern Azolla, a small-leaf floating plant that lives in symbiosis with a nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria (Anabaena), is an outstanding plant, thanks to its high biomass productivity along with its tremendous rate per unit area for nitrogen-fixation.  The present study investigates the potential growth of Azolla in secondary effluents for removal of COD, phosphorus, and nitrogen. Resul...
